Description
In line with the European Union’s priority to promote the new Green Deal, the EuroHPC JU is committed to addressing energy efficiency and environmental sustainability throughout the whole spectrum of HPC technologies, such as low-power hardware technology, dynamic power-saving and innovative techniques including advanced cooling and heat recycling. While energy efficiency poses multidimensional challenges across the entire HPC value chain, the EuroHPC JU also aims at improving the amount and quality of R&D output per energy unit consumed .
Among the expected outcomes, the call aims to reach:
- Substantial improvement of energy efficiency while increasing overall throughput and utilisation of supercomputers,
- An empowered and energy-conscious user community,
- The establishment of standardised metrics to better measure the efficiency of supercomputers and enable detailed comparisons between supercomputers and data centres,
- The creation of a comprehensive data repository to house the complete collective operational dataset from all participating HPC centres and other relevant data,
- A holistic and modular European software stack of interoperable components with well-defined and well-documented interfaces, covering energy aware and dynamic workload management, monitoring and operational data analytics deployed in pre-exascale and exascale production environments.
