Call - New algorithms for applications on European exascale supercomputers

The objective of this call, HORIZON-EUROHPC-JU-2022-ALG-02-01, is to develop novel algorithms to exploit the full potential of the upcoming European exascale supercomputers. It will enable HPC applications to use these new computing capabilities in the future and address important computational challenges which are currently intractable.

The call is funded by Horizon Europe, the EU funding programme for research and innovation, with a total budget of up to EUR 5 million. The EuroHPC JU will provide funds to a consortium which will provide financial support to third party projects, on the basis of an open and competitive selection process, to develop new algorithms with the highest possible impact.

The call will be open for submissions from 20 April 2022 until 27 October 2022, 17:00 (CET).

More details and all relevant documents concerning the call are available on the EU Funding & tender opportunities portal.

Call - National Competence Centres for High Performance Computing

The objective of this call, DIGITAL-EUROHPC-JU-2022-NCC-01, is to support existing NCCs and the creation of new NCCS in the EuroHPC JU Participating States. NCCs represent a focal point of HPC in the participating country, liaising with national initiatives in the area of HPC, facilitating access of national stakeholders to European HPC competences and opportunities in different industrial sectors and domains. Central to the mission of the NCCs is to provide support to SMEs, but the local public sector, industry and academic institutions will also benefit from their activities. Through this action, the EuroHPC JU supports the widening of HPC skills and the adoption of HPC by new users from the private and public sector.

The call will be open for submissions from 20 April 2022 until 28 June 2022, 17:00 (CET).

The call is funded by Digital Europe Programme (DEP), an EU funding programme focused on bringing digital technology to businesses, citizens and public administrations, with a total budget of EUR 43 million. Each NCC is co-funded by its participating states ( 50% cost-sharing). Applications are invited for two topics:

More details and all relevant documents concerning the call are available on the EU Funding & tender opportunities portal.

Background

EuroCC and CASTIEL, two EuroHPC R&I projects launched in September 2020, has built a European network of 33 NCCs for HPC across Europe. The two projects are bridging the existing HPC skills gaps while promoting cooperation and the implementation of best practices across Europe.

As the two projects are coming to an end in the coming months, the aim of the call DIGITAL-EUROHPC-JU-2022-NCC-01 is to continue these efforts and further develop European network of NCCs.

More information on the achievements of these two projects are available in the interview of Bastian Koller, the coordinator of the two projects.
