By combining the computational power of supercomputing with cloud-like accessibility, HammerHAI ensures that companies and research institutions can develop and deploy AI-driven solutions efficiently and at scale.
A key aspect of HammerHAI’s service portfolio is personalized consulting and technical support. Experts guide users through the entire AI lifecycle, offering strategic advice on identifying relevant AI applications, optimizing models for scalability and performance, and estimating computational costs. Additionally, the initiative ensures compliance with European regulatory frameworks, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the AI Act, providing a secure and legally compliant environment for AI development.
HammerHAI offers a selection of pre-trained models and containerized AI development environments to accelerate AI adoption. These resources allow companies and researchers to reduce development time and integrate AI solutions more seamlessly. The main objective is to ease the migration of existing solutions to HammerHAI. Furthermore, the platform facilitates secure collaboration, enabling teams to share datasets and AI models while maintaining strict data governance standards.
Beyond infrastructure and technical support, HammerHAI places significant emphasis on knowledge transfer and skills development. Through tailored training programs, workshops, and university collaborations, it fosters an AI-ready workforce, equipping professionals and researchers with the expertise needed to implement AI effectively. These educational initiatives and hands-on experimentation opportunities ensure that users can apply AI technologies in a practical and impactful manner.
By providing this comprehensive suite of services, HammerHAI lowers the barriers to AI adoption, empowering organizations across industry and academia to securely, efficiently, and sustainably leverage AI-driven innovation.
This initiative, coordinated by the High-Performance Computing Center of the University of Stuttgart (HLRS) and four core partners (GWDG, KIT, LRZ, and SICOS), aims to provide businesses and researchers with secure, scalable, and easily accessible AI resources for training and inference, covering the key aspects of the entire AI lifecycle. The primary objective of HammerHAI is to lower the barriers for start-ups, SMEs, large enterprises, and scientific institutions that need powerful computing capabilities to create and deploy AI-driven solutions. By blending state-of-the-art supercomputing know-how with modern “cloud-like” features, HammerHAI will speed up innovation, help train an AI-ready workforce, and foster a robust and secure AI ecosystem in Germany and Europe. In this context, Germany’s Gauss Centre for Supercomputing (GCS) and associated HPC sites follow a coordinated approach to support Europe’s AI needs.

The JUPITER AI Factory (JAIF) consortium, led by Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ), is establishing a world-class AI ecosystem targeting for European startups, SMEs, industry and cutting-edge research with the most powerful European supercomputer, JUPITER, at its core. Four main partners from the federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse work closely with other established associated partners combining exascale supercomputing, data and support structures, excellence in science and in methodological research on AI, including largest foundation models, closest links to industry and SMEs, and community building. JAIF’s main partners are Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) at FZJ, the Center for Artificial Intelligence at RWTH Aachen University (AI Center), the Fraunhofer Institutes for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems (IAIS) and for Applied Information Technology (FIT), and the Hessian Centre for Artificial Intelligence (hessian.AI). Associated partners include the German AI Association (KI Bundesverband), WestAI, hessian.AISC, and the Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (LAMARR). JAIF will collaborate strongly with all other AI Factories in Europe to establish a European AI innovation cluster, starting with a collaboration with the AI Factory France, taking advantage of their exascale capacities (JUPITER, Alice Recoque) toward training of leading AI models, and particularly, to develop federated learning applications.
The project is co-funded by the European Commission (through the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking), the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the Ministry of Culture and Science (MKW) of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) and the state of Hesse.
